defining and investigating alterity for Black Chicagoans in the ‘alternative’ music scene

this will be an exercise in looking at black alternative music scenes, and figuring out what alternative even means. here's the proposal.

the main things i am trying to look at are blackness and embodying blackness and what that means in these usually white spaces, which i think is cool.

here's what some of the goals of the project are:

• research that is accessible!
• embracing the ways culture is made and interacted with in both physical spaces and non-physical, or metaphysical spaces.
• working with musicians to expand on what it means to be Black in the previously mentioned physical and metaphysical spaces that are considered apart of 'alternative' culture in Chicago.
